Not all motor oil is the same — and European automakers are particularly specific about what goes into their engines. BMW requires Longlife-04 or LL-01 rated oil. Mercedes-Benz specifies MB 229.5 or 229.51. Volkswagen and Audi engines often call for VW 502.00 or 504.00 specs. Using the wrong oil — even a high-quality conventional or synthetic — can void your warranty and cause long-term engine damage.
